SSL Certificates

Different certificates for different purposes…

There is a range of SSL Certification available on the market at the moment and we will be happy to provide you with advice on which is the most appropriate for your needs. Below you’ll find a snapshot of the most common certificates and their uses.

High Assurance (HA)

These certificates provide assurance to your users that you really are the company behind the secure website in question. They provide a warranty to the user, guaranteeing your identity, ranging from $10,000 to $250,000.

Unified Communications Certificate (UCC)

UCC are a new type of security certificate developed in conjunction with Microsoft to work with Microsoft Exchange 2007 and/or Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. They are designed to simplify the management of SSL for multiple domains, allowing a single certificate to service multiple domains.

Wildcard Certificate with SGC (WC SGC)

Wildcard Certificates enable SSL connections on multiple sub-domains of a domain, for instance, you could have:

• secure.example.org
• login.example.org
• another.example.org

When you need to protect multiple sub-domains, Wildcard Certificates are usually the most cost-effective option.

Server Gated Crytography (SGC)

SGC Certificates provide the same level of identity assurance to your users as the High Assurance line of certificates, with the advantage that they allow older browsers (restricted by US Export regulations to 40bit or 56bit encryption) to be upgraded to 128bit, or 256bit depending on browser and server support.

Our SGC certificates come with a standard $250,000 identity warranty.

Extended Validation (EV SSL)

Extended Validation Certificates are designed to work with Internet Explorer Version 7 and provide users with a green address bar and scrolling information next to the address bar displaying who the certificate is registered to and who issued it. This provides instant reassurance to visitors using IE7 that your site is secure and trustworthy.

These certificates are designed for those who need to provide absolute peace of mind for their users. They are issued under strict validation by all issuers to ensure that they are only issued to the company whose name they are issued in and that the department/person requesting the certificate has authority to do so.

EV certificates are also available with SGC as an option.

NB: Not all providers of EV SSL Certificates fully support IE7 on Windows XP, however, the certificates we provide come with EV Enhancer, which ensures that all EV benefits can be gained with IE7 on XP.
